Refugees United – Chapter 11, Peshawar
After months and months of seemingly no action or results, David, Mansour and I decided to try and take things into our own hands. At this stage Mansour had grown in courage and in his desire to unearth any information possible about what had happened to his family. He reached the decision to travel back to Peshawar in search of answers and of people who might assist him in his quest. Not a small feat, considering his young age, returning to the place and people who separated him from loved ones 5 years earlier. Peshawar is a hustle and bustle…

June 20th is World Refugee Day
June 20th is a day like every other day. 86,400 seconds: A blink of an eye to some, and to others a lifetime passing by. For more than 36 million people, this day, as any other, is 1,440 minutes of despair, another day of uncertainty, 24 hours of fear. June 20th is World Refugee Day. Celebrating World Refugee Day is not so much a celebration as a remembrance; a remembrance of what could have been for all these people had they been granted the geographical opportunities we enjoy. A remembrance that, at the end of the day, we are…

Juba, South Sudan, Feb. 8th 2011
Pushing 43 degrees Celsius, this is actually the “cold” season for South Sudan. Hairdryer hot is the first word that comes to my mind. Arriving in Juba on Feb. 7th for a short stay was a privileged invite to the birth of a new nation; exciting, with a dash of Bambi-legs. It shone clearly from the eyes of most officials who’d been official less than a few hours: “What the hell am I doing here?” Refugees United was in town with UNHCR Uganda, paying a visit to the UNHCR Sudan field office in Juba to discuss family tracing through Refugees…

The Brazilian Red Cross people tracing forms with Refugees United stickers. Thanks to the great work from our São Paulo Office in Brazil, this is what Alexandra Aparicio, our Latin America Manager had to say: The Brazilian Red Cross people tracing forms now include information on Refugees United. The round green sticker contains the search engine website and mobile tool addresses. Our partner will help us raise awareness on Refugees United and spread the word around the world, since the forms are sent to various countries! 🙂 It looks great. Don’t forget, if you want to help us, spread awareness like…

Here’s what’s gonna be a brief update from East Africa after a busy day full of meetings focusing on how we best bring the access to register and search on the refunite platform to the many refugees living in Nairobi and the Dadaab refugee camp in cooperation with our local partner organizations. Things are progressing well and we can’t wait to get into real action. If things go as we’re currently aiming for, we should be ready with a launch of registration points by mid-June. and don’t worry – we’ll make sure to catch your attention, once we have a…

Jambo!
We arrived in Nairobi yesterday, all excited about the coming week. Over the next seven days, we are going to kick-start the East Africa outreach project with our many committed partners here in Kenya. So, we started out today with a fruitful and super-productive planning meeting with our main partners from the Refugee Consortium Kenya (RCK). We made serious progress in drafting a results-oriented plan of action, so that we can start the process of assisting refugees here in Nairobi and in the Dadaab camp in registering onto the platform. We are amazed by the level of engagement and commitment from…
