August 6, 2014 — REFUNITE is pleased to have three films featured at FilmAid’s 8th Annual Film Festival. Focusing on the theme ‘Untold Stories,’ the festival showcases and celebrates the unique stories of refugees and other marginalized populations.

FilmAid hosts this festival to celebrate films and documentaries by filmmakers from across the world, including films from local refugee filmmakers trained by FilmAid. REFUNITE has partnered with FilmAid to produce the three films, for refugees and by refugees, to empower these individuals to tell their own stories. The films also raise awareness of the simple technology now used by REFUNITE to encourage more mobile users to register, even those without access to an internet connection.

In producing these videos, REFUNITE recognizes the power of film to enhance clear communication and reach large audiences. The partnership with FilmAid enables REFUNITE to harness film to promote awareness and engagement with potential platform users. Discussions after the film allow for further engagement in the process.

The films were shot on location in Kakuma in the dominant languages spoken by refugees, such as Somali, French, and Arabic.

The festival runs from August 4th – August 9th in Dadaab and Kakuma, and August 12th in Nairobi. Follow our updates on Facebook for details on screening schedules for these three films.
