Description: The Public Broadcast system for the Refugees United platform provides a way for people to connect to an IVR system and record a public broadcast. This broadcast is then available for all registered users of Refugees United to listen to and reply to.

After listening to a broadcast the listener can do the following:

  1. Reply privately via voice – this will send a voice message directly to the person who posted the broadcast.
  2. Reply publicly via voice – this will start a “conversation”, so the reply will be attached to the broadcast so both the original person and others can listen to it.
  3. Listen to any replies that have already been posted.
  4. Listen to the next broadcast.
The original person can then listen to any public and private replies that have been posted and continue the conversation publicly or privately.
People can also add each other as “favourites” which is tied directly into the Refugees United platform to enable them to communicate easily via the web, but also enables them to communicate with the private voice messaging part of the IVR system.
How this will help to reconnect families:
Take an example:

Person one connects to the IVR and posts this broadcast: Hi, my name is ___, I’m looking for my brother ___. I last saw him in Sydney one year ago – he is average height and has a big red beard
Person two then connects to the IVR and listens to the first broadcast then replies: Hi, I think I saw your brother in Melbourne last week, he didn’t have a beard but I noticed a scar on his forearm.
Person one then connects and replies back: Thanks for the information, yes that is him, he has had that scar from birth. Please could you tell me where you saw him.
and it goes on…

Hundreds of families are reconnected through our work every month, often after years of searching for their missing loved ones.
Any donation will help separated families reconnect.
