The number of forcibly displaced families worldwide has reached an all time high with UN’s Refugee Agency indicating that the situation is likely to worsen.
A report released by UNHCR on Thursday shows that 59.5million have been forced to flee their homes to escape wars, conflict and persecution. A year ago, the number of forcefully displaced persons was 51.2 million and 37.5 million a decade ago.
Globally, one in every 122 people is now either a refugee, internally displaced, or seeking asylum, the report reveals, a number that resounds with the theme for this year’s World Refugee Day: Get To Know Refugees – People Like You and Me.
World Refugee Day celebrates the strength, courage, and resilience of refugees around the world. It is marked every year on June 20.
