Social entrepreneurship is gaining popularity and uses business techniques to solve social problems.

On February 3, 2015, Co-Founder and Co-CEO of Refugees United (REFUNITE) Christopher Mikkelsen gave a guest lecture at the Copenhagen Business School in Denmark.

In his address to MA students from the Social Entrepreneur class, Mr. Mikkelsen used his own personal journey to illuminate the following message to students:

“REFUNITE has had its fair share of challenges and successes but this has been an integral part of the learning process which underlines the difference between classroom theory and reality. As an organization, we constantly refer to the lessons learnt as we strive to improve the lives of refugees using our reconnection platform.”

Mr. Mikkelsen also offered advice to job seekers and students wanting to start their own nonprofit.

He shared personal anecdotes, referencing not only his early-stage failures but also a personal encounter with an Afghan refugee that inspired him to found REFUNITE with his brother David Mikkelsen back in 2008.
