Emmanuel Jal to Highlight Refugees United on We Want Peace Tour
At the young age of seven, Emmanuel Jal was taken from his family in South Sudan and forced to become a child soldier. Released from captivity after 5 years, Emmanuel turned to music as a way to cope with his past. Today, the globally acclaimed hip-hop artist broadcasts his message of peace and equality as an advocate for social justice and human rights. Refugees United receives Award of Distinction at Prix Ars Electronica, Austria Linz, Austria – The annual Ars Electronica Festival opened on Wednesday, 4th of September, at LENTOS Kunstmuseum in the city of Linz in Austria. Refugees United to Launch Operations in Uganda
In continuation of our efforts to support families separated by conflict, famine or disaster, Refugees United is pleased to extend our on-the-ground mobile operations to Uganda. Launching next week in Kampala, our program will initially target the nearly 30,000 urban refugees who live within the city limits. Most refugees in the area are of Congolese decent, followed by South Sudanese and Ethiopian. Refugees United will be working with InterAid, UNHCR (The UN Refugee Agency), the Xavier Project and the Office of the Prime Minister to increase awareness of the Refugees United tool and register those in need. Nairobi Outreach Program Reaches 600 People In One Week!
This month, Refugees United began a program in Eastleigh, a predominantly Somali neighbourhood just outside of Nairobi. With more than a million Somali Refugees spread throughout Kenya, countless stories of conflict, drought and famine have torn families apart. The program in Eastleigh was created to help as many people as possible find their missing loved ones. After two months of operation, we are overwhelmed by the number of calls we have received at our international call center. The call center helps to support our users around the world in their search for loved ones. Callers can be registered by phone, get more information about our services, or receive technical support. With a truly international team of agents, callers can be assisted in 6 different languages: English, Swahili, Somali, French, Lingala, and Arabic.
