A newly established collaboration between REFUNITE and the IOTA Foundation marks a significant step forward in using distributed ledger technology for social good.
REFUNITE Partners With The IOTA Foundation
It’s our pleasure to announce a partnership between IOTA and REFUNITE, two organizations at the cutting edge of technology and with a shared mission of making people, and machines, not only better connected, but also more empowered through secured, personal data.
IOTA’s Tangle is a hyper-speed step forward in creating a zero-fee distributed ledger to facilitate micro-transactions at near infinite scale. Utilizing their innovative distributed ledger technology, IOTA aims to provide the world with a secure protocol to store personal data and other sensitive information.
REFUNITE is the world’s largest open platform of missing persons, helping more than 700,000 refugees with their search for missing loved ones. Powered through mobile technologies, the organization enables the displaced to register, search and reconnect through lo-fi technologies like SMS and call centers, across more than 25 African and Middle Eastern countries.
With a joint focus on last-mile environments and how to create communications networks in off-grid locations, IOTA and REFUNITE intend to explore access to critical information and the increasing opportunities that arise from a more connected world.
IOTA and REFUNITE are very excited to begin this research together, and look forward to delivering the first insights and actions in the near future.
